Firefox is by far the best browser I have found on the web and I have checked most of them. There are some important extensions that are for me an absolute must to have and they are what make Firefox stand so tall above the competition.

WordWeb is the absolute best single free program I have found. WordWeb is a quick and powerful international English thesaurus and dictionary for Windows. It can be used to lookup words from almost any Windows program, showing definitions, synonyms and related words. There are also many proper nouns and examples of usage. I use it every day to insure I am using the best word for the job. I really don't know what I would do without it. It should have 6 Home State rating. I use it every day.

DocPad is a superior alternative to Notepad. Although it fills the same role, plain text editing, it has many advantages: 10-level undo, alphabetization, block indent/unindent, bookmark, case conversion, encoding conversion, file history, jump to line, jump to offset, keyboard macros, search and replace, spell checking, statistics, variable pitch font, and much more. It also includes a built-in calculator, calendar, and character map. Used internally by Gammadyne Corporation for 4 years, DocPad is now available to the public for free. DocPad runs on the Windows® 95, 98, NT4, 2000, ME, XP, and 2003 platforms. A processor of at least 33 Mhz. and 16 MB of RAM is recommended. I use it every day.

NotePad++ is a complete source code editor. Supporting program languages like c, c++, java, html, xml, php, asp, javascript and perl just to name a few. Syntax highlighting makes the source code quite readable. While comparing 2 views of the same document and editing it side by side or search and replace in multiple open documents with the ability to save all open documents with just one click of the mouse makes this and amazing piece of free software. Here's a list of some more of it's great features, but not all. User defined syntax highlighting, auto-completion, multi-document (you can edit several documents at the same time), multi-view you have two views at same time, regular expression search/replace, full drag and drop, dynamic position of views horizontal or in vertical), file status auto-detection, multi-language environment, bookmark you can bookmark a line by clicking just right of the line number and a bookmark symbol appears. Then later when you want to go to that bookmark just press f2 for next bookmark or shift f2 for previous bookmark. To clear all bookmarks, click in the menu search clear all bookmarks. This is a highly recommended program and every time someone I recommend it to tries it they say thank you and make it a favorite piece of their software. Try it and you'll love it. It was essential in the making of this website.

If your website has good / real content, you have a good chance that your link will be approved and you will be granted a free license. It is the easiest backup utility I have found. Further since it uses the standard Zip formats it is completely reliable. It would have 5 Home State rating, except it is not free. However it is possible to get it free.

FileZilla is a powerful FTP-client for Windows 9x, ME, NT4, 2000 and XP. It has been designed for ease of use and with support for as many features as possible, while still being fast and reliable.

OpenOffice Suite gives you everything you would expect in office software.
